Did you know your soda is spiked with bromine? To make things worst, there’s also bromine in bread which is a huge problem for your thyroid. The bromine in bread is used to strengthen the bread so it can stay up on the bread hook. Today, almost everything has bromine in it, including your toothpaste and upholstery!
Is Bromine In Bread And Soda Bad For Your Thyroid?
1. Toxic Chemical
Bromine is a chemical element classified as a halogen and it’s in the same group as chlorine, iodine, and fluorine. Its red-brown liquid form has a foul odor and its vapor form is extremely harmful to the body. Exposure to this kind of bromine can be toxic and lead to several problems such as skin rashes, severe acne, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, fatigue, and cardiac arrhythmias. A build up of bromine in your central nervous system can also result in psychological symptoms such as acute paranoia.
2. Obstructs the Production of Thyroid Hormones

The thyroid gland relies on iodine to produce thyroid hormones necessary for your metabolism to regulate body temperature and other essential bodily functions. Due to bromine similarity to iodine, when bromine is present in our food, our body mistakes it as iodine and takes its place in our system. Eating food with bromine can lead to iodine deficiency and in turn, makes it difficult for your thyroid to function properly.
3. Greater Iodine Deficiency
Bromine doesn’t just take the place of your needed iodine intake. Bromine can also accelerate the elimination of iodine from your body while it takes its place in your system. Eating food with bromine will not just deprive you of iodine but will also get rid of the iodine in your body, leaving your thyroid in a greater iodine deficient state.
4. Endocrine Disruptor
Endocrine disruptors are chemical substances that interfere with your body’s endocrine system and can cause harm to the health of your body. Due to bromine’s great similarities with iodine, it becomes an endocrine disruptor as it blocks iodine receptors and the production of thyroid hormones.
5. Difficult to Avoid
Exposure to bromine is hard to avoid because it’s everywhere, from bread, cosmetics, even your swimming pool!
