The combination of hypothyroidism and type 1 diabetes also increases the chances of your type 1 diabetes developing into type 2.
3. Hyperthyroidism and Hyperglycemia
Hyperthyroidism or an overactive thyroid negatively impacts your glucose management by promoting hyperglycemia or high blood sugar. Excess thyroid hormone in one’s system promotes glucose absorption in the gut, which can lead to increased blood sugar levels, and a reduction in glycemic control.
4. Hypothyroidism and Low Insulin Level
An underactive thyroid, hypothyroidism, can lead to reduced efficiency in important regions such as the pancreas which is vital for proper insulin function. Insulin is a necessary element for proper conversion of blood glucose into energy. When the pancreas is slowed down due to hypothyroidism, it makes maintaining a healthy blood sugar level even more difficult.

Diabetics affected by such conditions can have severe insulin resistance without even knowing it. Subclinical hypothyroidism also increases the risk of nephropathy or kidney disease in type 2 diabetics due to lessened cardiac function and greater blood vessel resistance.
